UNITED HEARTS

In 2024, Malawi was experiencing a severe drought, primarily caused by El Niño conditions. This prolonged dry spell resulted in widespread crop failures, water shortages, and soaring food prices. The drought has hit the agricultural sector hardest, with over 80% of Malawi's population relying on farming for their livelihoods. As a result, millions of Malawians are facing acute food insecurity.

The Malawian government declared a state of emergency in 23 districts, while we as humanitarian partners launched a $8 million Flash Appeal to assist 3.8 million of the most vulnerable people. The drought not only diminished food supplies but also heightened the risk of waterborne diseases and livestock suffering due to water and pasture shortages.

The humanitarian response focused on key sectors like agriculture, food security, water, sanitation, and health to mitigate the worsening crisis.

In February 2024, Dr. shepherd Bushiri began the initiative of ‘United Hearts’ Circle of Faith Charity Events” which saw a significant humanitarian initiatives around the world amidst global challenges. The SBF Foundation aimed to raise US$8 million to combat famine in Malawi. Starting on March 8, 2024, supports came together to help the cause. The response was extraordinary, with funds raised to aid those in need. Dr. Shepherd Bushiri and the SBF team around the world personally travelled across Malawi, delivering aid. The branches worldwide organised their own charity events, spreading the spirit of giving globally.

The Circle of Faith events demonstrated the power of collective action and love in adversity. the SBF foundations efforts illuminated hope and healing, showing that kindness knows no bounds. Gratitude was extended to all who contributed, acknowledging their role in making a positive impact and embodying the true spirit of charity and solidarity.
